I have a medical condition that has started to cause me to have urinary incontinence. There is a surgery but before I can get the surgery I’ll have to just deal with it for about a month. Since I am allergic to most medications my best option is diapers. It is very embarrassing. But since I need to wear diapers I wanted to know what would be more comfortable. Comfort is the only concern here.
I like depend fitted briefs they have never leaked for me and they are as comfortable as diapers come.
would you pick a c-section or a vaginal birth?
04 Mar 2010
I am in the 3rd month of my first pregnancy and am worried about the effects on a woman from giving birth vaginally. Before I thought much about it I thought, "of course, I’ll have an unmedicated vaginal delivery, because that’s the best way to go." But the more I read the big, long-term empirical studies with thousands of women in them, there seems to be a strong correlation between vaginal delivery and urinary incontinence and/or vaginal prolapse in a woman’s later life. Now of course many women who give birth vaginally don’t have these problems! But the literature seems to suggest that they are more prevalent in women who did so vs. c-section delivery, and that the WORST outcomes are in women who try to give birth vaginally end wind up having to have a c-section or forceps delivery anyway. Furthermore, I have also read a good bit about vaginal tearing and fecal incontinence, as well as loss of sexual sensation in women who have complicated vaginal deliveries. It makes it sound like it might not be the best bet for a woman, if she can avoid it, all "natural" considerations aside.
I want to make it clear that I am not concerned about the pain associated with vaginal birth. I am concerned about the long term effects on my health. My doctor is willing to perform an elective c section and I have confidence that he is more than capable of performing this (after all) pretty standard operation, but ya know, it’s major abdominal surgery too, with risks and potential complications of its own.
In fact when I asked my doc which was better, he said, "It’s basically a wash – there are benefits and drawbacks of each." I am interested in the reactions of others to this statement since I know elective c sections are both controversial and on the rise. Did you go one way, and wish you’d gone the other? Were you happy with your choice? Let me know how you view this option.
The risks that carrys from a vaginal birth are much lower than from csection not to mention the pain and the fact that you will have to fight for a vaginal birth (if you decide) with your next child as some doctors will not like to do VBACs. What you outline of the risks that a vaginal delivery can cause like prolapse, incontinence (which can also just come from age with a women who has never had kids) and loss of sexual satisfaction are all quite low. I myself have had two drug-free births and my first i tore and needed 6 stitches and my sex life had never been better and then i had my son which i had a small tear and graze with no stitches needed and my sex life is still great. As for the incontinence that can help helped a great deal by doing your pelvic floor exercises/kegals regularly during pregnancy and after and right through your life to help prevent this from happening. I don’t do them too much and sometimes experience a little bit of a leak if i sneeze if i have a full bladder but sometimes people who have never had children get this or even women who have had a csection as the pelvic floor has a lot of strain on it just from the pregnancy its self.
A complicated vaginal delivery all depends on many things but most of it starts from little interventions or just lack of knowledge on the mother behalf. Things like an assisted delivery by forceps or ventouse or very preventable. The key is KNOWLEDGE!
Here are just a few…..
# Follow Optimal Fetal Positioning during your third trimester to avoid your baby getting in a bad position which can highly effect how the labour can go and sometimes make it a harder labour ending up with forceps or ventouse
# Do NOT push on your back. Being on your back makes your pelvis much smaller and makes the chances of your baby getting stuck much much higher as they will often get stuck behind your coccyx bone. Being upright opens the pelvis right up and it is also easier for you to push and reduce the chances of tearing. Squatting can open up your pelvis by a major 30%
# Have an active birth. This means you do not get confined to the bed with monitored and that you get upright, change positions, walk around, go in the shower, hop in the tub, lean over a birthing ball
# Choose the right OB or even better to choose an independant midwife or care lead by midwives as the lowest rates of intervention happens at home with private midwives and with midwifery-led care, and the highest rates of intervention happen in private hospitals with private Obstetricians. However this is not to say that you can’t have a natural birth in a hospital – you just need to prepare yourself and your support team very well and be prepared to firmly stand your ground.
# Just get knowledge in general. Do your research. The more knowledge you have the more equiped you will be on how to have the best birth possible and how to avoid nasty interventions which you may constantly hear about.
I highly suggest you read

A MUST watch doco is

and a great website (even though Australian based) which is full of wonderful information many women do not hear or learn about through their pregnancy….

I’m just curious and not sure if they really do work.
Anyone have positive feedback?
I do them regularly, and for me, they worked!
It took a while for me to notice a change (about a month of doing them almost every day)
But, if you do them properly and keep it up you will benifit.
=)
how well do kegel exercises work for men?
24 Feb 2010
this exercise is for men who want to control their ejaculations better. i read up on a few sites and they’ve given tips on how to do them. i’m wondering how well does this work? when will you see effects? and is it full proof? as in will doing this actually have even a slight improvement to your endurance?
It can definitely strengthen your erections, as well as allow you to last longer during sex, however you need to learn it correctly…squeeze your PC the wrong way, and you can actually cause premature ejaculation…the whole reason you started the exercises in the first place
I am planning to take a health insurance policy for my parents. I also want to know which insurance company will claim the disk prolapse operation? Because my dad is suffering from disk back pain. I’d like to take such a plan. I am from pune. Working in software industry. My company is not providing for total family, but providing for me.
If you do buy a private plan, you father would most likely have to wait out a pre-existing clause exemption. This means he may have to wait a year or two before any surgery, or any medical care related to his back for that matter, would be covered. However, since you are not protected by the statutes of a group policy (those policies offered by an employer are often much more liberal), there is a possibility that anything ever related to his back would NOT be covered. This prevents people from buying insurance just to get covered for an expensive procedure and then ditching the coverage afterwards.
Aside from that, just about any major medical plan will cover back surgery, but for how much and under what limitations are going to depend on the personal provisions you elect to pay for in the policy. For someone with a known medical condition, I’d expect to pay well over $1,000 a month (probably close to 2) for his coverage on a good, private policy, and then have to wait a year or two to wait out any pre-existing clauses.
I have had both both but I never really understood the difference. A bladder infection obviously affects your bladder opposed to your urinary tract and the UTI affects the urinary tract. How do the symptoms differ? Are they both treated the same way? Thanks
The symptoms of both are about the same, with the exception of pain / discomfort in the pelvic area (for bladder infection) and the kind of urine you pass (cloudy / strong smelling for cystitis and bacteria in the urine for a UTI.
Bladder infection (cystitis) symptoms
?A strong, persistent urge to urinate
?A burning sensation when urinating
?Passing frequent, small amounts of urine
?Blood in the urine (hematuria)
?Passing cloudy or strong-smelling urine
?Discomfort in the pelvic area
?A feeling of pressure in the lower abdomen
?Low-grade fever
UTI symptoms
?A strong, persistent urge to urinate
?A burning sensation when urinating
?Passing frequent, small amounts of urine
?Blood in the urine (hematuria) or cloudy, strong-smelling urine
?Bacteria in the urine (bacteriuria)
Erections during Kegel Exercises are Bothersome?
13 Feb 2010
I always get erections while performing kegel exercises and its very annoying. how can u perform a kegel exercise without getting an erection? Or is there another way to work out your PC muscle?
You might try doing the exercises after you’ve had an erection for a long time and it’s gone down on its own. You’re less likely to have another one then.
they did the test on him and something about specific gravity. Can’t he just be lazy and not peeing outside enough be the reason for his accidents in the house?
12 year old, boxer/shepard mix.
If he’s a twelve year old boxer/shepherd mix, then he’s probably at the end of his life right now. When animals are that far along in life, I’m pretty sure it’s normal for them to lose control of their bladder.
He has been having involuntary accidents. Before I take him to the doctor I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions to try or ideas of what could be going on with him.
The first question I have is: Is this a new problem or has it been ongoing for some time?
The person to whom you should address the answer is of course his pediatrician. If the problem is new, also make a list of changes in your son’s life in the months just before.
Any new friends? Any old friends move away? Any new school or grade change?
Keep a potty diary for your son, or better yet, teach him to keep one. Just write the time, #1 or #2, and whether or not he actually made it to toilet (such as "1pm, #1, yes"). Very basic, very simple, but a way to keep track. This may be helpful to his doctor, too.
Often, changes are the biggest cause. It could be a good change, or a negative change. An old friend leaving, problems with family, etc. Other possible causes are infections, such as UTI’s, though these are really more common in girls than boys. I must mention that abuse is also always a possibility, but handle that subject carefully.
Anyway, these are just a few ramblings on the topic; but he really needs a good evaluation to determine the cause.
Cheers
Want to rid myself of urinary incontinence, what can I do to help me get rid of this?
I don’t think that my bladder completely get empty because if i sit on the toilet for a moment after i urinate..more urine will flow down….
having children weakens the supporting structures of the uterus and bladder in some women. what u ca do is kegel exercises and do them faithfully. If after several months you still have this, then I would go to ur gyno and speak to hm or her. They will suggest kegel exercises and probably prescription med to relieve an overactive bladder. so be prepared. But ultimately, if you have finished having had children I would inquire about surgery to fix this
