I eat healthy, exercise but it seems that no matter what I try I don’t seem to be losing weight. People keep telling me to eat a low fat diet but the doctor told me that eating low fat is what killed my gall bladder. He said that everything in moderation. However it seems that if I eat too much protein I get sick, if I eat low fat I get sick. I am so confused until I am on the verge of just giving up. I try to balance it out but I don’t seem to lose a pound. Can someone help? I need realistic help. I have a very understanding family but I don’t want to make them suffer with special diet. I can prepare two meals for dinner if need be but it would be easier to just prepare one. Any suggestions? I am also looking for something long term. More like a life change as apposed to a diet.
Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:
– Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
– Beans/Legumes
– Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!!!)
– Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
– Eggs
– Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
– Olive oil
– Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
– Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
– Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea
I think he has Swim Bladder Disease and I heard that peas can make it better. The problem is that they sink to the bottom and he doesn’t really eat off the bottom. They’re still sitting there. Any ideas?
He’s not sitting on the bottom. He is floating on the top and is having trouble getting to the bottom. That’s why he won’t eat the peas.
There is no medication for swimbladder disease. You have to cure it yourself.
First, fast for 3 days. Then feed the fish nothing but peas (microwaved or boiled) for 3 days. This SHOULD help cure SBD but some swimbladder problems are irreversible.
Let me explain. Fasting it for 3 days will make it hungry enough to go after food. When it is hungry, it will eat the peas. Also, this will help clean out its system if it is constipated.
Recent research has closely linked high nitrate levels with SBD; in many cases, ‘floaty’ fish were restored to normality fairly quickly when placed in nitrate-free water. It is therefore recommended to check the nitrate levels in tanks with fish suffering from SBD, and try to keep the nitrate level below 20ppm, max., at all times.
My betta nado keeps floating to the top. He seems to be doing better today after I changed his water and he is eating fine. What should i do?Is this a swim bladder infection?
Please help!
If when you see him swimming it gives you the idea that he has an uncontrollable air balloon inside. Most probably is a bladder problem, but doesn’t have to be an infection necessarily. Some foods have the ability to sometimes expand inside your fish’s intestine, making it hard for the bladder to function properly. This type of bladder problem should go away by itself somewhere in between a couple of hours to a day or two. If your fish shows lack of control when swimming, don’t feed him for 24 hours. Let his body get rid of what’s inside it. If it doesn’t get better in a day, try the Pea Method, you can google it, it’s very common. Also I’m not sure, but I’ve heard that bad water conditions can increase the chances of getting this problem, so keep the water clean. If you have a 1 gallon tank, 100% water changes should be done every 3 – 4 days.
If the problem repeats, try a different type of food. Good quality pellets are great since you can actually see how much you are feeding your fish, and won’t cause problems. If after fasting him (or she) the problem persists, then you can consider other sources like infection or deformity. Hopefully is just a minor thing that can get fix easily.
I hope this helps you at least a little, good luck.
I started Cipro 500mg for a bladder infection yesterday. I took 1 tab yesterday afternoon, one in the evening, and one this morning. The foul odor of my urine cleared up by the time I went to bed last night, but I’m still experiencing frequency and cramping when I empty my bladder. The pain is diminished but still very uncomfortable. In the past I’ve had total pain relief after 12-18 hours. Am I expecting too much too soon?
Perhaps this was a more severe infection or it was caused by a different organism this time. It takes an antibiotic about 48 hours to reach it’s peak. Give it time and be sure to increase water intake to 3 liters.
I was hit by a drunk driver while walking, my bladder was punctured and have suffered incontinence since. I try to control (hold it) my urges to urinate in hopes of strengthening the muscles. The connection between my brain and bladder has suffered as i also had a head injury to aid the puncture, so does anyone have good advice ? Please children, do not waste my time w/ ur foolish answers (get a life) !!
P.S. The wearing of diapers is OUT !
I don’t know about exercises, but you could wear those adult diapers just in case if you don’t have access to a bathroom and need it.
My cat has very strong smelling urine, She used my bed for her litter box and it had this really bad odor, I know what cat urine smelles like but this was different. What are symptoms of a bladder or kidney infection and what can I do to help her?
So far I want to thank everyone for the answers. I know I need to take her to a vet and I plan on doing so on Monday, I’m asking this question just for info.
AND BTW MY CAT IS FEMALE NOT MALE
Hi Nicky…generally, when cats inapropriately soil outside of the litterbox it is a sign if a feline lower urinary tract infection (FLUTD):
Symptoms of an UTI:
- bloody urine
- straining to urinate (can easily be mistaken for straining to defecate)
- urinating in unusual places
- urinary blockage (almost exclusively a male cat problem)
- licking the urinary opening (usually due to pain)
Here’s an article about Feline UTI which talks about blood in urine as well: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_feline_lower_urinary_tract_dis.html

Consider ringing your vet to have a urinalysis or blood work drawn to evaluate if she has a urinary infection as soon as possible.
I think I have a bladder infection…It doesnt burn while Im peeing but once I am done it hurts alot….I cant go to the doctor till Monday, is there anything that can lessen the pain?

Urinary tract infections can be painful, but you can take steps to ease your discomfort until antibiotics clear the infection. Follow these tips:
Drink plenty of water to dilute your urine and help flush out bacteria.
Urinate frequently.
Avoid coffee, alcohol, and soft drinks containing citrus juices and caffeine until your infection has cleared. They can irritate your bladder and tend to aggravate your frequent or urgent need to urinate.
Drink 100% Cranberry juice (no juice mixes) or take cranberry pills.
Use a heating pad on your abdomen to minimize bladder pressure or discomfort.
Prevention
Take these steps to reduce your risk of urinary tract infections:
Drink plenty of liquids, especially water. Cranberry juice may have infection-fighting properties. However, don’t drink cranberry juice if you’re taking the blood-thinning medication warfarin. Possible interactions between cranberry juice and warfarin may lead to bleeding.
Wipe from front to back. Doing so after urinating and after a bowel movement helps prevent bacteria in the anal region from spreading to the vagina and urethra.
Empty your bladder as soon as possible after intercourse. Also, drink a full glass of water to help flush bacteria.
Avoid potentially irritating feminine products. Using deodorant sprays or other feminine products, such as douches and powders, in the genital area can irritate the urethra.
I am having my third implant put into my back to stimulate the area around my bladder to have the urge to urinate on my own, instead of using catheters all the time. I am also having strange weakness in my hands, legs, plus many memory issues. I fall and lose my balance all the time. Why is it so hard to get help? I feel like I am alone in this, all my health care people either have no clue or they are just sick of dealing with my issues. I try to deal with it but I also worry is this something my young adult children might develop as well as they grow.
Here is what I found on webmd that may explain the neuro problems that you are having:
Polyglucosan Body Disease, Adult
General Discussion
Adult polyglucosan body disease (APBD) is a rare, chronically progressive, metabolic disorder with severe neurological expression. It is caused by the abnormal accumulation of microscopic material (polyglucosan bodies), predominantly within the myelinated nerve fibers (motor neurons). The polyglucosan bodies are spherical and composed of large, complex, sugar-based molecules (branched polysaccharides).
The disorder typically affects both upper and lower motor neurons, resulting from nerve damage within the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system) respectively. Symptoms usually begin during middle age or later and usually include muscle weakness, loss of sensation, and/or wasting of muscles (atrophy) in the arms and/or legs. Impaired bladder control (neurogenic bladder) and/or mental confusion (dementia) also occur.

I wish you well.
A friend is having this done and I was wondering what the general time in hospital is for this kind of surgury? She is having the artificial Bladder put in.
2-4 days.
My SPAYED female cat has been behaving well as of lately. But for some reason recently she has been going into the living room and peeing in the same corner of my BRAND NEW CARPET. Also while in the tub today I smelled cat pee, and later found her peeing on my dirty laundry where I had smelled the urine earlier.
WHY is she doing this and what can I do to prevent it? I heard that it could be a bladder infection so…what are signs of those?
Peeing outside the box IS a sign of medical problems. Cats cannot tell you so they show you by their behavior that something is wrong. I would take her to a vet to have her checked out.
