   A simple heart murmer is not usually dangerous, but if a person actually has a mitral valve prolapse, that is dangerous and needs to be repaired.
   The cost would depend on where it was done and the surgeon doing it. The cost would vary greatly if you had insurance also.
   It would be in the tens of thousands, at least, once you added up hospital, surgeon, pharmacy, radiology, etc charges.

   MVP is a common finding with varying degrees of clinical significance. The heart is quite tolerant of this valve dysfunction. You should have an echocardiogram ( cardiac ultrasound). A stress echocardiogram would also be helpful to see how your valve functions with exercise. Moderate valvular leaking is not harmful however you may have some palpitations.

   My advice is to get your health insurance. Heart surgery can run thirty thousand dollars. In the meantime, talk with your physician about the
   clinical significance of your valve issue.

   No specific treatment is necessary unless mitral regurgitation is present. Mitral regurgitation can cause a heart murmur.
   Mitral valve surgery is surgery to either repair or replace the mitral valve in your heart.
   Minimally invasive mitral valve surgery is done through much smaller incisions (cuts) than the large incision needed for open surgery.
   In open surgery, the surgeon makes a large incision (cut) in your breastbone to reach the heart.
   You may discuss with your cardiac surgeon regarding the cost of repairing mitral valve prolapse.

   The mitral valve is in between the Left atrium and the lower left ventricle. If the condition causes regurgitation into the left ventricle it can cause congestive heart failure. Most can be controlled with drugs. In order to get into mitral valve,the surgeon has to open the heart meaning open heat surgury. A heart murmur is nothing to worry about but if going to a dentist or other surguries,it requires an antibiotic. The cost of MVP is per surgeon and insurance.
