Der medizinische Begriff Harninkontinenz bezeichnet das Unvermögen, den Urinfluss aus dem Körper zu kontrollieren. Dies kann passieren, wenn der Blasenschließmuskel, der sich beim Mann unterhalb der Prostata befindet und die Harnröhre umschließt, aus seinem Halteapparat gelöst wird, „abrutscht und die Harnröhre nicht mehr schließen kann. In einem knapp einstündigen Eingriff wird ein rund 30 Zentimeter langes flexibles Kunststoff-Band eingesetzt, welches den Schließmuskel wieder in seine anatomisch korrekte Lage zurückzieht und so die ursprüngliche Funktion des Blasenschließmuskels wieder herstellt.

The male sling procedure involves the surgical placement of tissue under the urethra to provide compression, How do male slings work? Urethral hypermobility is not present in males with urinary incontinence after prostatectomy. Presumably, the male sling works by producing enough obstruction in the bulbous urethra to lessen incontinence, while still permitting voiding.
