Our Saint Bernard puppy is overflowing with a medical issue that causes urinary incontinence. He pees on himself in his sleep occasionally (he’s gotten better at holding it for short periods of time) but he ALWAYS drips. I have to clean his dog bed and our floors constantly due to him dripping wherever he lays down and as he walks. It is also bloody… but this isn’t a problem I need advice on anymore.
Because of this incontinence, and him always dripping and sitting in his own urine, you can imagine the horrid smell and just foul state he would be in… I feel bad for him. The problem we’re having though is that he is absolutely 100% terrified of water. He has been with us since he was 9 weeks old and has never been given any reason to be afraid of water in his time with us. He is almost 7 months old and 80 lbs now and expected to be 150+ pounds full-grown.
He will not go near his dish while we fill it with water, he runs from me whenever i mop, he cowers in the side of the yard if the sprinkler is on or if we are watering the rose bushes. He leaves the room if we turn on the sink, dishwasher or washing machine. He never goes into a bathroom. If water in not 100% still he will not go near it.
So our problem is this: He needs a bath. He ALWAYS needs a bath due to his condition but we’re so afraid of traumatizing him with the water. It’s really a catch 22… he had an exploratory surgery to diagnose his condition, and is sewn up… the urine and blood festering on his wound is just NOT healthy. I clean him with a rag and hydrogen peroxide often but he needs more than that.
What can I do to help him get over his fear? We’ve tried playing in it with him to show him it’s fun and safe… we tried playing with him in a lake once but he wouldn’t even step into the water. He refuses. What can we do??
We have a cat and he has bath issues too… not that helpful. but thanks…
In a situation as yours, I would speak to the Vet about the possibilities of a sedative AND taking him to a professional groomer. (and I don’t mean a place like Petsmart or Petco) Maybe after a few times of doing this, he will get more use to it. (desensitizing the issue)
I was going to say rabies, as its chief diagnostic characteristic is hydrophobia, but if the dog has already undergone a litany of tests I can’t imagine a vet would miss it. References :

Call your vet and ask if they can help with the bathing of the dog, they will give a mild sedative and this will help the dog alot.
And, since your vet cannot seem to find the problem with the dog, I would highly suggest a new vet and at least a second opinion on the problems, this dog is too young to go through life with this constant urinary problem.
Did they test the kidneys, they could have been damaged during birth and this can also cause the problems your talking about on your post.
The needs to be diagnosed correctly and taken care of, I know your doing all you can do, but a Vet really needs to be consulted now.
Second opinions are necessary when a vet does a surgery to find the problem and that vet says, I can’t find anything, time for a new vet to help find the problem
good luck, and I am sorry your having so many problem’s with your dog….hope he gets well really soon, I will say a prayer for him. References :

The one and only TRUE Kegelmaster
Warning!
The generic "Kegel
Exerciser" is a poor imitation of our patented product, not possibly being able to work as well.
More details about
this and other competitive devices in
the Discussion Forum.
Beware of
cheap, ineffective, fraudulent imitations! If it does not have 15 strength
settings and does not have a completely adjustable knob, it is not a genuine
Kegelmaster.
There is no technique or competitive product at any price that
compares to the genuine Kegelmaster. There are other products such as vaginal
weights and cones that are tedious to use,
and there are conventional "kegel
exercises", likewise tedious, but there is nothing to rival the Kegelmaster
and slowly but surely the world is finding out!
Although the
KegelMaster?
was invented to stop and prevent female incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain, etc., the sexual
benefits turn out to be a wonderful bonus!
We appreciate the
favorable articles that are appearing in magazines such as

and Globe?

Ready to
feel more intense pleasure than you?ve ever imagined? This one simple
flex will transform your sex life.
Here,
the story of Rachel, 32, married six years, who swears by
it.
Sex?
Oh, it?s fine (most of the time).
That?s
what Rachel, like
a lot of women, used to
say before she discovered a tiny exercise that changed everything. ?I
always felt very confident in my ability to please my husband. But when it
came to my own body, pleasure was a mystery. Sometimes?if we were too
tired to give it the extra effort?I wouldn?t climax at all.
?Two
months after I started the Kegel
exercises,
I began havingintenseall-bodyorgasms.
So
when a friend told her that these pubococcygeus (PC) flexes, called Kegel
exercises (which involve nothing more than squeezing that hold back
urine), could make sex absolutely amazing, Rachel hit the Internet, eager
to learn more. ?I found out how easy it is to strengthen my muscles on
my own,? she says. ?And just for fun, I also bought the Kegelmaster
2000 (www mykm.com). It?s like a
Stair-Master for your PC muscles.? After only three weeks, Rachel
noticed a huge improvement in her orgasms: ?They felt a lot better, and
I had them more often.?
A
bigger big 0
But
the best was yet to come (literally!): ?Just two months after I started
the Kegel exercises, I began having these really intense all-body orgasms
that were triggered by
his thrusts,? she reports. ?With this new kind of orgasm, there?s a
pleasurable pressure that starts building, and as it increases, I feel
like I can?t keep going because it?s too intense. But once I give in
to that overwhelming feeling and continue, that?s when I have these
amazing, well, body spasms?and it just feels good beyond words.?
